Growing Pains

So lately little miss has been much too fidgety at nap and bed time for rocking and snuggling :( Although today out of the blue she let me rock her to sleep twice. So maybe it was just a phase? I hope so because I'm not ready for her to stop snuggling and never look back!

The last two days in a row we have gotten her to eat all 2 tablespoons of her sweet potatoes. I added cinnamon (I know it's on the high allergy alert list).

I think she is working on her top 2 teeth, although the gums aren't white yet so it's going to be awhile :( It has been the probable culprit of some fussiness.

I lowered her crib to the middle height :( Bittersweet. But since she sits up very well on her own, I know it's coming. We also had to take the canopy/arm off her mobile because somehow she was knocking it sideways and it was hanging down into her crib.

I carry her around on my hip a lot, and lately if she sees something she wants a closer look at she will just launch off. It's frightening! Luckily I've caught her each time.

She's definitely getting a "personality". She will kick and scream when it's not going how she wants. I'm already having to use "no". I am trying to teach her not to fight me on the changing table.

We are having a 6 month family photo shoot this week. I'm excited. I have an 18x20 frame I bought at an auction while I was still pregnant, with a nice family photo in mind. I hope I'm about to get it!

Did I tell you I got a new stroller finally? I went with the Jeep all-terrain one and I love it! It's hefty to get in and out of the car but it handles so well!

I put Sophia's baby swing up for sale this week. It hasn't been used in probably a couple months, and I already know I want a different model next time around. So out it goes. Another bittersweet.

The most bittersweet of all! John switched to the convertible carseat in his car! She looks like such a big girl in it :(

Happy Monday!

6 month checkup day!
So- her height puts her "off the charts" according to her pediatrician and round about the 100th percentile according to the WHO growth charts. She is in the 75th percentile for weight and the 50th percentile for weight to height ratio.

We have two friends with 13 month olds who are the same height (or very close) to Sophie! They are both on the short side and Sophia is on the tall side. It's not as apparent yet since they are both standing/walking and Sophia is only sitting. But when we help her stand it's pretty funny.

My mom says I was tall as a baby, but that didn't continue (I'm almost 5'4") so we shall see.

It's funny because she is still in 6 month clothes, some 6-9 month. I guess maybe if it was cool enough for pants right now we'd have to buy bigger sizes in those.

Two days before her 6 month birthday she wailed pretty loudly at her morning breast feeding. She just wasn't wanting to. I finally forced coaxed her into it. The next day she just was not having it at all, and I didn't want to fight anymore. So, I've finally stopped completely. There was no pain or engorgement, so I suspect my supply was pretty low already. I am glad I tapered down rather than going cold turkey. It was less painful and I didn't feel as guilty either.

Just in the last couple weeks a bit of a temper is coming out. She definitely will cry just to show anger. She'll even arch her back and throw herself around. Mostly if I've taken away something she wanted, or if she wants to be picked up. I think she might be a bit of a spitfire. It's amazing how soon the sin nature and flesh appears :) Lol

Sophia is not a fan of table food so far. We've tried sweet potatoes (you saw what a hit that was), avocado (same reaction) a tiny piece of a saltine cracker and a tiny bit of mushed green bean. The only thing that hasn't made her look like she sucked a lemon was guacamole. I acted super excited when we took a bite and kept saying "Yay, mmm, yummy!" She looked a tad more happy about eating. For now she is growing (really well!) and so the pediatrician said not to worry about it, just keep offering. He said babies are known for being texture eaters so maybe we haven't found the texture she prefers.

I've had lots of people encourage me to give her mashed bananas- but I really want her to learn to love veggies and other non-sweet nutritious foods before I give her something as sweet as bananas. The pediatrician agreed with me on this. He stated babies are a blank slate and we shape their palate. Although I did have a friend say that bananas were similar in sweetness to breast milk and formula. That does make sense. But to be honest, I have a strong sweet tooth and I really hope for her to avoid that.

I was honest with the doctor that I'm probably a little more worried than some about her diet. I already worry about her being overweight since she's formula fed. I worry about her being overweight because her parents are/were. We are openly working on that. So while I'm not a nuts and seeds vegan organic paleo gluten free raw food type person, I would like for her to eat and enjoy healthy foods.

Sophia is such a joy in our life and we love her to pieces!

Little this little that recap

Just a few things that have been going on around here

Aunt Hali visited- Sophie had her second trip to the beach, her first time in a bathing suit. She had such a cute suit she got as a shower gift. And the first time I put it on her, it was too small. So Aunt Hali bought her a quick replacement.

Eby was very fond of Aunt Hali

Sophie likes Eby too

The cute replacement suit

She loved the beach breeze on her skin-
Pure elation
We went once just the girls

On the second trip papa joined us

I turned 29. For the first time :) I was very blessed to get a "Nifty 50" camera lens, new pots and pans (so shiny- I love!), an Amazon card (new hair dryer) and money for manicure supplies. I've grown my gel polish collection by 4 more. I'm still loving it.

I spent my birthday day doing normal things around the house, and playing with Sophia in the mirror.
She at least has my chin

Waving at her friend

Nap time. I so love when she falls asleep in my arms.

Then we had Baskin Robbins with a few friends.
We couldn't convince Sophie to smile, she was tired

Daddy love

A few days after my birthday was Sophia's half birthday. Grammy Melanie sent us both a gift!

A little after my birthday my mom took me for dinner at The Fish House. They have the best.cheese.grits.ever. Smoked gouda cheese grits. Sooooo delish.

After dinner we walked to the bay front. There was a pelican there that let me get literally just a foot away from him. I think he would have eaten from my hand if I would have been brave enough to try.

That's some of the things we've been up to lately!
